Internal fighting for power, not for national interest

The prosecution of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department against two former Editors-in-Chief of Thanh Nien newspaper Nguyen Cong Khe and Nguyen Quang Thong, for violations related to the land 151-155 Ben Van Don, District 4, is a shocking news to the point that “it can immediately suppress news about the health of the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.”

Nguyen Cong Khe is considered the most powerful figure in Vietnam’s state-controlled media. He has a special relationship with senior leaders in the power apparatus of the Party and state of Vietnam, from the early 2000s until now.

The funeral of  his moyhrt Le Thi Lieu was assessed: “Even the current head of a world power cannot be like that when his parents die!”

According to knowledgeable people, the arrest of Nguyen Cong Khe on grounds of violations related to the land area 151 – 155 Ben Van Don is just an excuse. There are rumors that there are political forces who want to arrest Khe to exploit information and find ways to control the power of the Southern faction. Through Khe, they can extract valuable information, and thereby control southern politicians.

Because Khe is an important central link of the power faction here. Khe has relationships with former State President Truong Tan Sang and Nguyen Minh Triet, and ex-Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung or the leadership in Saigon as well as the southern provinces. But this has always been just a rumor.

However, recently, Tieng Dan online newspaper had a series of articles by author Thu Ha, with the title “Nguyen Cong Khe and escaping death twice.” The article showed that the arrest of Nguyen Cong Khe was related to a “Revenge plan of former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s fraction.”

Journalist Thu Ha’s article showed that the Security Agency of the Ministry of Public Security has been persistent for more than 15 years, with two failed arrests of Khe for many different reasons in two occasions:

“For the third time, on the afternoon of January 16, 2024, Nguyen Cong Khe lost his luck and had to be put in handcuffs, ending a glorious and arrogant time.”

Previously, there was disagreement among senior leaders between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and PM Nguyen Tan Dung. This unseen discord caused Trong to join hands with Truong Tan Sang to fight PM Dung.

However, after the 12th Party National Congress in 2016, Prime Minister Dung failed in the race to be General Secretary, and he was forced to retire. At that time, people thought that the war between Truong Tan Sang and Nguyen Tan Dung was a thing of the past, especially when there were rumors that former Prime Minister Dung had secret agreements with General Secretary Trong.

That is why Dung’s two sons, Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Nguyen Minh Triet, continue to advance.

In 2015, in the series of articles “The Great War of Sang and Dung” by author Trenh A Sang, posted on the website DCVOnline, many secrets were revealed. Author Trenh A Sang said “This article is not about a certain war between Sang and Dung but about the constant fighting between two leaders in Vietnam’s four pillars: Nguyen Tan Dung and Truong Tan Sang.”

The author clearly pointed out: “Sang’s weapon – the press henchmen on the right side – is no longer usable at this moment. A part was controlled b Dung’s police force, such as Tam Chanh in Saigon Tiep Thi; Cong Huynh in Tien Phong; Another part retreats to the safe solution.”

Author Trenh A Sang has exposed the behind-the-scenes struggles of the supreme forces within the Communist Party of Vietnam, along with the subjects drawn in to serve the mutual settlements between individuals. individuals and factions within the Party. In addition, the author also makes comments about the nature of these fights, as well as whether or not they have an impact on the overall outcome.

A question is, “What do the Vietnamese people gain from the fights at the top, like the Nguyen Phu Trong-Nguyen Tan Dung or the Nguyen Tan Dung-Truong Tan Sang fight?”

According to author Trenh A Sang, in those battles, regardless of whether Dung or Sang won, Vietnamese politics still did not improve. Is Sang better than Dung? And when Sang led, was the country be better? Did Vietnam be tougher with China?

The answer is definitely not. In terms of personal character, Sang is not sure if he is better or worse than Dung. But this political mechanism forces them to be equally bad.

The fact that Sang and Dung fought each other was only to destroy each other, not for the national benefit. Once it’s time to compromise, they’ll sit down together again. The power cake will again be divided according to the new agreed ratio.

But regardless of the odds, as poet Nguyen Duy once said, “Whichever side wins, the people lose” and the people always have no part in it./.
